The French class had been a fantastic experience for me which provided me with a solid foundation in the language while also making learning enjoyable with engaging activities and a supportive environment. Maria is a phenomenal teacher who knows exactly how to run a class for non-native speakers of French. And she does so while you are having fun and playing games, never realizing that you’ve just acquired an additional link in the structure of the language. She is young, dynamic, knowledgeable, informative, helpful and possessed of that rare quality that makes for a great teacher: she can make you fall in love with your subject! Maria uses a game-based approach to teaching you French with help from authentic documents and course books. This enables her students to speak the language faster and allows them to assimilate concepts easily and, in a stress free environment. Maria has been working for us for the past three years at the Alliance française de Karachi and we are extremely privileged that she is a part of our team. Maria’s style of teaching is unique as she is patient and quick to understand her student’s grasping ability. She was extremely patient with me and played fun games to make concepts clear. Besides, just classroom learning, she encourages her students to watch French movies and read books. I remember watching a great French movie, Nothing to Hide, with her which definitely did make French more interesting for me. After watching the film we had a long conversation not just about the language, but about French culture and food. I had Constance as my first-ever French teacher during my first year of the French language course at the University of the Witwatersrand, and I believe that her approach to teaching is what encouraged me in my French language learning journey. She was always thorough in her explanations and very patient with those who couldn’t grasp concepts immediately. Her teaching style encompassed traditional classroom methods, storytelling, and sometimes classroom games, accommodating different students with different learning methods. Moreover, Constance was kind, with a vibrant and friendly personality, which made it easy to relate to her. This, in turn, made her approachable to students. Her knowledge on various topics beyond what she was tasked with teaching us also made her a target of endless questions from students, a task she didn’t seem to mind, which, in my opinion, made her an awesome teacher.
